At L&M's you can enjoy a wide variety of dishes prepared just as they are enjoyed in Italy. True to the Italian philosophy of eating local, seasonal foods, much of what we use is Mississippi grown. Chef Dan Latham uses locally raised pork to cure much of the salumi which we use and sell, and he has taken great care to ensure that our various cheeses, wines and other products are authentically Italian and of the best quality.

Dining at L&M's

The menu and the restaurant itself are both designed to accommodate a wide range of dining experiences. You can come in for a casual meal day or night, or you could settle in for more of a fine dining experience, perhaps enjoying our Chef's Tasting, a five-course meal which provides a wide sampling of our menu. Whether you decide to pop in off the street to sample our cured meats or have a quick pasta or panini, or you've come to L&M's to celebrate a formal occasion, you'll feel right at home. Our staff will gladly assist you in whatever you have in mind.

We have an exclusive list of Italian wines, as well as a full bar and extensive beer list. Reservations are not necessary, but they are encouraged at night, especially on the weekends. If you do not have a reservation but you make last minute plans to try to dine with us, often we can accommodate you, either at a table or at our bar.

History

Chef and owner Dan Latham, a native of Jackson, Mississippi and graduate of Ole Miss, originally had set out on a career in finance but was inspired to pursue a career in the culinary arts instead. He subsequently moved from New Orleans to New York, where he enrolled at the French Culinary Institute. Dan developed a particular love and interest in Italian cuisine, and having completed studies at the FCI, he completed his culinary apprenticeship at a series of Italian eateries in New York, including Po, Babbo and Italian Wine Merchants. Dan worked closely with chef Mario Batali at Baboo and Italian Wine Merchants, overseeing the Salumeria operations for both places.

Dan and his wife Meredith, also a native Jacksonian, decided to move back to their native state to open an Italian restaurant of their own, and chose Oxford as the ideal spot to create what they had in mind. They set about creating a restaurant which would serve the authentic food of Italy, using Dan's forte in curing traditional Italian meats as the cornerstone of the enterprise.

L&M's Kitchen opened its doors to the public on February 13th, 2004.
